We have only a memory, dear Barbara
We cherish our whole life through
But the sweetness will live forever
As we treasure the memory of you

Barbara Alida Walraven - de Wit

10 August 1959 - 24 February 2018

We are deeply saddened by the passing of a very dear friend from the Netherlands, Barbara Walraven.
Barbara was always loving and kind to us on our many visits to see her and husband René. Sharing together our passion of Dutch pottery and her vast knowledge and expertise of Ivora, which culminated in the
Ivora exhibition at Museum Gouda in 2015. Maybe another of the reasons we saw her so much was for the wonderful dinners she always cooked! We will never forget her generosity and hospitality.

We extend our deepest sympathy to our dear friend her husband René, the boys Pieter & Léon and the entire family.

Our pain is shared with them at this sad time.

Our dear friends Barbara & René present an exhibition of Plateelbakkerij Ivora at Museum Gouda.

Barbara tells us - "Collecting Ivora all started with my husband René who had a Plateelbakkerij South Holland vase in the 'Rhodian' decor from his mother. We liked this so much that we hunted together for other pieces. René stayed with the Plateelbakkerij South Holland pieces and I collected some figurines. I then found myself drawn to a vase by Plateelbakkerij Ivora and from then on I was hooked! I became so interested in Ivora that I started to research the history. This was very difficult to do and has taken many years of searching records and archives. I started in the Regional Archives in Gouda with the microfiche files. Trying to trace the history of all the Ivora painters and other employees was a mammoth task. There are other Ivora collectors and I enjoyed meeting with them and finding out more information on the different models and decors that they owned."

Most of the pieces in the exhibition come from the collection of Barbara and René with some from the collection of Museum Gouda itself and various other lenders.

We are honoured to have been invited by Barbara & René as their special guests to attend the exhibition.

On our return from Gouda we will post pictures taken from the exhibition.
