Commemorative Plate - Regina - 1938

"Good Old Chamberlain"

16.0 cm D

The Munich Agreement, negotiated at a conference held in Munich, Germany, permitted Nazi Germany to annex portions of Czechoslovakia's borders mainly inhabited by German speakers. The agreement was signed in the early hours of 30 September 1938 but was dated 29 September. Now regarded as a failed act of appeasement toward Germany and as we know did not prevent WW2. The British Prime Minister Chamberlain returned to Britain and delivered his infamous "peace for our time" speech to crowds in London.

Regina thus produced this plate to commemorate the event. The plate was painted by Jan Signer and together with Gouke Bonsel, they designed this type of memorabilia. With thanks to Joop Nobel for the information.
